There comes a time in life when you’re pushed towards the limit. You tell yourself this is it. You believe the whole universe is coming at you all of a sudden. The truth is, there’s nothing sudden about this. Giving up or giving in is a gradual process. Your mind, body, and soul never drain instantly, it’s always little by little, moment by moment until it reaches the end. Energy demands to be fed for its maintenance, it can never just give unconditionally. While life seems unfair, the rules for living a healthy life are quite simple if you ask me.
Years ago, you imagined a life you have right now; a good job and good pay but you don’t seem to feel the same way about it anymore. You tried talking it out with people you love but it does not help. Let’s face it, you’re exhausted. You’ve been doing the exact same thing every single day and it has become an endless void; it’s as if everything you do is meaningless.
You’re Burnt Out
While you’re confused about why everything is out to get you, you’re unable to address the real problem. The answer to every why and what is simple: you’re burnt out. What’s that? Being burnt out is a common syndrome in people who work 9 to 5 jobs. The syndrome, according to the World Health Organisation, is mostly an outcome of chronic stress at the workplace. Here are a few symptoms to determine whether you’re burnt out or not:
1- You’re continuously exhausted. Your eyes are heavy but having a good night’s sleep isn’t easy for you. The exhaustion isn’t out of physical or mental work neither does it fade after hours of rest.
2- Everything in the workplace is becoming toxic. You have a negative approach towards each task or person at the workplace.
3- Your efficiency and effectiveness are decreasing. The workload is the same but now it’s just too much to handle.
4- You’re no longer excited about work. There’s zero enthusiasm and no task gives you satisfaction anymore.
5- You’re not willing to put in the same amount of effort as before.
6- Your performance is deteriorating. Due to the lack of interest in your task and the workplace, your performance has started to suffer as well.
7- Due to the poor stress management, you’ve been experiencing some physical problems as well. These include improper sleep, headaches, chest pains, and breathlessness. Apart from these, some people face dizziness and gastric problems as well.
Once you’ve figured out what the problem is exactly. It is time for you to understand why there is a problem, to begin with. The question is, why do people burn out at workplaces?
There are several reasons behind being burnt out. However, it mostly happens because a 9 to 5 job is never fulfilling. There will always come a point where you’ll miss something because of it. Whether it’s a family occasion, a break or something as small as enjoying the weather, when you’re in a 9 to 5 job, you’re basically being paid to listen to someone else.
Another major reason is neglecting your passion. At the workplace, your passion can never be fed properly. When it comes to passion, it doesn’t only have to be fed, it needs a boost. Whereas a workplace is never capable of providing that. This is because passion requires confidence and authority while a workplace drains self-confidence and the ability to perform effectively.
People usually take a break from work and set off to someplace natural or away from the daily routine. Even though this helps, it is still temporary. After a while, everything turns back to what it was and you’re back to square one. However, if you’re looking for a permanent solution, you might as well root for a start-up. It can be entrepreneurship or just a simple business start-up or even better, a coach or consultant of some sort. The point is to be your own boss, to be limitless.
What happens in a business is that you do not get to deal with a toxic environment which makes you safe from being burnt out. Changing the attitude might help but in the long run, it’s better if you simply change your workplace. After all, how many days can you even afford to take off? Besides, you’ll still have to come back!
Ignite the Passion
Passion cannot be ignited by just carrying out the assigned tasks. It demands challenge, interest, and curiosity! It requires hustle alongside excitement and adventure. It looks for opportunities and it cannot be caged. Therefore, switching from a 9 to 5 to a business is preferred. The best part of starting a business is that once it starts, it serves as a proper financial security source. Whereas in a 9 to 5 job, there’s none.
Being able to ignite the passion and staying away from the physical and mental disadvantages of a 9 to 5 job is only achievable if you’re being provided with your comfort zone. And one can never be comfortable in a space and environment that limits or holds one back. At the workplace, people aren’t mostly themselves. They’re whom their boss wants them to be. Are you really up for that for the rest of your life? Remember, a company you work for will replace you the moment you leave.
The point is, you deserve an enthusiastic and fulfilling life. Every aspect of your life should be meaningful and exciting. The hustle and efforts you put forward should be awarded and appreciated equally. The enthusiasm and dedication you place in your tasks should be acknowledged every time. The best person to acknowledge your efforts is you. You are all you got, and you are all you need. You deserve more than you think. A business may be difficult but remember that it always brings more to the table than a 9 to 5 job. Therefore, ignite your passion, don’t burn out!
